About Us

The Research Data Unit (RDU) (formerly: Competence Centre for Research Data (KFD)) was founded in 2014 as a joint service facility of the University Computing Centre and Heidelberg University Library. The mission of the KFD is to offer researchers at the university the best possible support for professional and sustainable research data management.

The RDU's service portfolio covers the complete research data lifecycle and can be grouped into four areas.

  1. Plan and apply: consulting and training for your research data management planning
  2. Collect and analyze: Services to actively work with and process your data ("hot data")
  3. Store and share: Services for data storage as well as sharing of data in an running project ("hot data")
  4. Publish and archive: Services for publishing and archiving research data ("cold data")

In addition, the RDU's parent institutions, the University Computing Centre and the University Library, as well as other service facilities on campus offer data management services.
